Join our next Safer Guiding training which is being held on Monday 3 August, 7:00pm – 9:30pm

During the session we’ll cover the role of the commissioner in managing concerns, allegations and disclosures. If any of this content may be a concern to you, please let us know in advance of the training.

In order to complete this course, you will need to attend both part 1 and part 2 sessions.

If you’re a volunteer who has previously completed a safe space training, you only need to do this course when your highest level of a safe space expires. So if you have a safe space levels 1 and 2, you’ll only need to do safer guiding once your level 2 expires. This training must be renewed every 3 years.

A Safe Space for 14 – 17 year olds 10 December, 2024

This training is a chance to complete A Safe Space for 14-17 year olds through a webinar. This is open to all young leaders and young external volunteers.

To enable young volunteers to help create a safe space, this training will show you how to create a healthy, safe, welcoming and fun environment for every girl.

Objectives

By the end of this session the participants will:
• Explore and understand the Girlguiding code of conduct and how it applies to you.
• Discover the importance of treating everyone in your unit according to their needs and not having biases or favourites.
• Learn some quick tips for self-care while you’re volunteering.

This training will take place online on Wednesday 2 September, 7:00pm – 9:00pm.

We’ll need parental consent, so please ask a parent or carer to help you fill in this sign up form.

Effective Communication for Leaders 22 June, 2026

We are holding a session for Leaders to develop your communication skills.

This course will encourage leaders to think about the bigger impact of communication whilst exploring which style of communication is the best tool or media for communicating in their circumstances.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

Be able to think about the ‘bigger picture’ when it comes to communication – body language, tone and active listening and what it might mean.
Determine which style of communication would be most appropriate for different audiences and circumstances.
Identify the best tool/ media for communicating for their circumstances.

This training will be taking place Monday 7 September, 7:00pm – 8:30pm

Celebrating every member 25 March, 2026

We are holding a session focusing on how to be inclusive for all of your members.

In this session, you’ll find out about inclusive decision-making and leadership, and how you can adapt activities and meetings so everyone can have a great guiding experience. You’ll also learn how you can support young members and volunteers and how to report discrimination.

By the end of the session you will:
• Know which forms can be used to support members and volunteers
• Recognise examples of inclusive decision making and leadership
• Suggest ways to adapt activities and meetings
• Know how to report incidents of discrimination

This is an online session that will be taking place Wednesday 9 September, 7:00pm – 8:30pm

16 Hour First Aid Course 5 May, 2026

We’re holding a 16 hour First Aid Course for Girlguiding North West England Members on Friday 11 – Sunday 13 September at Pendle Forest Scout Hut.

The course will be run by a licensed first aid trainer and will cover the content required for the Girlguiding level 2 and 3 walking qualification, national body outdoor qualifications, as well as the first response syllabus.

The course is suitable for any leader who wishes to complete or renew their 16-hour first aid qualification. The course is limited to 12 people, but we will keep a waiting list, so book on now to not miss out!

There may be bursaries available for members of North West England who wish to use this for their walking qualification or their volunteering work for DofE within the region. Please email kate.grimshaw@girlguidingnwe.org.uk regarding these.

Doing Our Best – Recognising and celebrating quality in your unit 24 June, 2026

We are holding a session for Leaders to increase their knowledge of the Doing Our Best standards.

This webinar will give you a better understanding of the doing our best standards and show you how you can use them as a framework to review, celebrate and improve what you do in your units.

By the end of the session you will:
• Know what the doing our best standards are
• Understand the ‘why’ of doing our best and be motivated to use the standards
• Use the checklists to identify your own good practice and areas for improvement
• Develop an action plan and share your knowledge with others.

This virtual session will be held on Monday 14 September, 7:00pm – 8:30pm.
