We are holding a session focusing on how to be inclusive for all of your members.

In this session, you’ll find out about inclusive decision-making and leadership, and how you can adapt activities and meetings so everyone can have a great guiding experience. You’ll also learn how you can support young members and volunteers and how to report discrimination.

Safer Guiding February 4, 2026

Join our next Safer Guiding training which is being held on Monday 2 March from 7:00pm – 9:00pm

During the session we’ll cover the role of the commissioner in managing concerns, allegations and disclosures. If any of this content may be a concern to you, please let us know in advance of the training.

In order to complete this course, you will need to attend both sessions.

Please note: As spaces are limited to 22 per session; please only register if you can definitely attend and ensure that there is strictly one leader from your unit attending. If you have completed the training within the last 3 years, you do not need to redo the training. If you’re unsure when your renewal is due, please check your record on GO, or contact your commissioner.

If you’re a volunteer who has previously completed a safe space training, you only need to do this course when your highest level of a safe space expires. So if you have a safe space levels 1 and 2, you’ll only need to do safer guiding once your level 2 expires. This training must be renewed every 3 years.

Effective Communication for Leaders December 17, 2025

Join our next Effective Communication for Leaders training to develop your communication skills. This course will encourage leaders to think about the bigger impact of communication whilst exploring which style of communication is the best tool or media for communicating in their circumstances.

Introduction to Managing Unit Accounts December 17, 2025

We are holding a session focusing on how to manage unit accounts.

This webinar will support you to understand your responsibilities in managing unit accounts. We’ll specifically look at the national accounts pack, but the principles and skills are transferable to all ways of recording accounts.

Love Rugby Information Session January 14, 2026

We are holding an online session lead by Vicky from England Rugby who will be talking about our Love Rugby challenge pack. This is the perfect opportunity to learn how to get your unit involved with rugby, have all of your questions answered, and discover new opportunities for your unit!

Inter-Cultural Youth Exchange Information Session February 17, 2026

We’re working together with Inter-Cultural Youth Exchange UK (IYCE) who offer opportunities for individuals aged 18-30 to volunteer with them abroad. Whether you’re interested in developing communities, teaching, language learning or exposing yourself to new opportunities internationally, this could be the program for you.

ICYE is a renowned organisation, known for supporting young people with opportunities for them to grow. The international volunteer programme gives young people the opportunity to volunteer with communities abroad, with connections in over 20 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas and an individualised programme tailored specifically to you.

They have short term (3-5 month) opportunities as well as long term (6-12 month) opportunities available. There are costs associated with travel and visas, however fundraising is allowed. This means that your expenses and living costs whilst undertaking the program are included.

Walking Qualification Weekend July 9, 2025

Calling all adult leaders! Do you enjoy walking in beautiful countryside with others? Do you want to develop your own skills in navigation or managing groups of members? Do you want to gain a qualification in walking? Maybe you’ve completed DofE Gold or Queen’s Guide and would like to progress. If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of these then this is the weekend for you.

On offer

Level 1 and 2 Training, and Level 1 and 2 Assessment course. If you wish to attend for Level 2 Assessment you must already have attended a level 2 Training Weekend.

Training:

The training will cover the main topics of the practical and theoretical sessions of the walking scheme, including:

· Route planning

· Navigational techniques

· Group management

· Hazards and risk assessment

· Day, micro and low visibility navigation

The course will involve some physical activities and being out in all weather conditions.

For those attending the level 2 training there will be an introductory zoom meeting on Thursday 12th March 7pm.

Grants to support the cost of attending the course may be available from Region, County or Division.

Going Away With Training January 9, 2026

We are holding a Going Away With training session on Saturday 21 March, 9:30am – 2:45pm

The day will provide the opportunity to understand the Going Away With Scheme and to learn about the fantastic opportunities that can be gained through guiding in a residential setting.

The training is for qualified leaders wishing to undertake their Going Away With Qualification to take their unit on a residential, or leaders already qualified who would like a refresher. The training is free to attend but you must have completed your leadership qualification.

This training will take place at Pettypool Activity Centre
