The Claire House Challenge
This educational challenge has been developed by a core team of volunteers within Girlguiding North West England, in conjunction with Claire House Children’s Hospice, after we heard the story of one of our members, Holly, and her experience in guiding.
The pack has four main sections, based on the four main aspects of Claire House and its programme. There are fun activities which explore: Senses, Memories, Family and Friends, and Supporting your Community.
This pack is suitable for all sections, and has been tested by the experts!
We have produced a key to help identify which activities are suitable for which section and to indicate where they fit in with the programme. We’ve also provided ideas on how to adapt the activities for younger age ranges and how to take them further for older girls. Girls and Leaders should also feel free to incorporate their own ideas and activities, if they are relevant to the challenge.
We recommend you spend a minimum of three meetings working on the challenge and choose activities from each of the different sections.
To find out more, download the challenge pack below. FAQs are included within the pack.
Badges are £1.25 each and a badge order form can be found at the back of the challenge pack. All proceeds from the sale of the badge will be donated to Claire House Children's Hospice.
If you would like a copy of the challenge printed and posted to you, we can offer this service for just £2.00 (to cover the printing and postage costs). Please email us at email@example.com with the postal address and send us a cheque, payable to 'The Guide Association NWE'.
A Message from Claire House Children's Hospice
For those of you that have taken part in the challenge, the money that you have helped raise means that we can help lots of children and families who are going through the most difficult of times.
Claire House simply would not exist without the support of the local community. Most of the money we receive comes from wonderful supporters, like you, who do lots of amazing things. If you’ve completed the badge, why not ‘take it further’. Lots of units have already taken part in fundraising activity, including cake sales, fashion shows, sponsored swims, dances, talent shows and many, many more. By fundraising for Claire House, you’ll be helping to create so many more special memories and moments for children and families who come to Claire House.
Here are some other great and innovative ways to fundraise:
£50 - A simple cake sale would mean we can take children on a day trip
£100 - A sponsored swim would pay for a session in our hydrotherapy pool
£500 - Putting on a talent show can pay for all homemade food for a day
£1,000 - Holding a glamorous ball would pay for a child to come to Claire House for a day
As a thank you, Claire House’s very special mascot Claire Bear would love to make an appearance and visit your unit. Even if you can’t fundraise, the team at Claire House would still love to update you on what’s happening and what your support means to children like Holly. Contact us on 0151 343 0883 or firstname.lastname@example.org to find out how to get involved.
